Sepulveda Middle School has over 1,000 students and many have real talents. Reporters Katherine Catalan and Lizeth Cortez decided to find some of our best artists ask about their style and a lot more.
Student artist Sophia Ylagan is currently an 8th grader at SMS.
Question: What inspired you to draw and why?
Sophia: “What inspired me to draw are the reactions of people when they see an art piece and everyone else is admiring your art. So it inspired me because I want to make others happy just by looking at my drawings.”
Question: How did you learn to draw?
Sophia: “I learned how to draw by looking at random objects and trying to see shapes in them. I drew shapes and lines and connected them.”
Question: What’s your favorite type of drawing?
Sophia: “I like to use ink and pens for drawing.”
Question: Why do you enjoy drawing?
Sophia: “I enjoy drawing because it makes me forget about all my problems and life and it relaxes me.”
Question: How long have you been drawing?
Sophia: “I’ve known how to draw since I was about four but I got more serious with it when I was ten until now.”
Question: What’s your favorite art piece you’ve drawn?
Sophia: “My favorite art piece is probably the burger one that got displayed at Monroe HS because it was my first time using alcohol markers and getting it displayed.”
Student artist Amy Cardenas is a 7th grader at SMS.
Question: What inspired you to draw and why?
Amy: “My sister wants to become a graphic designer, so she taught me a few things and I decided that I wanted to start drawing.”
Question: How did you learn to draw?
Amy: “I learned how to draw by seeing my sister.”
Question: What’s your favorite type of drawing?
Amy:“My favorite form of drawing is cartoonish style and drawing people.”
Question: Why do you enjoy drawing?
Amy: “I enjoy drawing because I think it’s fun and it uses up my free time.”
Question: How long have you been drawing?
Amy: “I’ve been drawing maybe since I was six.”
Question: What’s your favorite art piece you’ve drawn?
Amy: “I’m currently working on a comic and it’s not official but it’s my favorite.”
Lastly we have student artist Matthew Montoya who is a 6th grader at SMS.
Question: What inspired you to draw and why?
Matthew: “What inspired me to start drawing was because I think it’s cool and you could use your imagination and make whatever you like.”
Question: How did you learn to draw?
Matthew: “I taught myself because when I was younger I taught myself skills like shading and other different techniques.”
Question: What’s your favorite type of drawing?
Matthew: “My favorite type of art to draw is realism because I like realistic stuff and it seems cool to me.”
Question: Why do you enjoy drawing?
Matthew: “I enjoy drawing because anyone can do art and there are so many possibilities with art and you don’t have to know how to draw.”
Question: How long have you been drawing?
Matthew: “I’ve been drawing for 7 years.”
Question: What’s your favorite art piece you’ve drawn?
Matthew: “I think my favorite art piece is an art piece of a giraffe and a sunflower field.”
