Spongebob Squarepants Bars are each one of a kind.

Spongebob Squarepants Bars are each one of a kind.

Hi guys! Did you know that, until very recently, a singular Spongebob Squarepants Popsicle cost about $1 and you could buy a pack of 18 Spongebob Popsicles for $28 at AMPM or 7-Eleven? Spongebob Popsicles are very cool because they taste good and you never know what you’re going to get when you open one. In this investigative article we will learn about Spongebob Popsicles, the Spongebob Popsicle trend, and a 4-year old who spent thousands of dollars on Spongebob Popsicles.

Spongebob popsicles were first introduced in 2004 by the company Popsicle and are officially called Spongebob Squarepants™ Bars. They have become legendary for some very unique reasons.

Spongebob Popsicles spiked up in popularity in 2020, all because a tiktoker named “brenttelevision” made a trending video on tiktok to find the “perfect Spongebob Popsicle.” It is well known that most Spongebob Popsicles are unintentionally weird looking. (Check out the pictures included with this article!) After that, people started to change their pfp (which is just short for profile picture) to a Spongebob Popsicle. That trend was called a “cult”, not an actual cult, but people call it that, the Spongebob Popsicle Cult. (Remember, these kinds of fake “cults” occurred so many times when Covid-19 was a really big deal! Thanks, tiktok!) (SpongeBob SquarePants Popsicle | Encyclopedia SpongeBobia | Fandom, n.d.)

Sweet and relatable?

The Spongebob popsicle, or “Sponge-sicle” for short, has the flavors of cotton candy and fruit punch. It also contains 100 calories and no milk.

On the back of the popsicle package there are mini / bite-sized Fun Facts like these:

Spongebob’s first words ever were “May I take your order?”

Squidward has more than 500 self-portraits.

The creator of Spongebob SquarePants once worked as a fry cook in a seafood restaurant.

According to the Washington Post, a 4-year old child from New York City bought $2,600 worth of Spongebob Popsicles (51 boxes) on Amazon back in 2021 and had them sent to his aunt’s home. I did the math (kinda) and he bought somewhere near $2,592 of Spongebob Popsicles! (“NYC Boy Buys Hundreds of SpongeBob Popsicles, Nearly Leaving Mom With $2,600 Bill,” 2021) The 4-year old probably bought $2,592 Spongebob popsicles because of the “Spongebob Popsicle Trend.” (Okay nevermind, 51 boxes of Spongebob Popsicles costs his mom exactly $2,618.85. I was off by $27. That also means that each box costs $51.35 … or $2.85 per Sponge-sicle. Inflation. Wow!) Thankfully, nice people heard about the boy’s purchase and set up a GoFundMe page to pay for all those popsicles. He got to keep over 900 popsicles … or at least those he could eat before they melted.

These days, Spongebob Popsicles are extremely hard to find. If you can find one this summer, enjoy it!
