What is your favorite horror movie and why? Staff Reporters interviewed multiple Grizzlies and we got a lot of unusual answers.
Eduardo Higuera, eighth grader: “I like Terrifier (Leone, 2016) because of the gore in it.”
Lilyana “Lily” Gomez, eighth grader: “Scream (Craven, 1996) because it reminds me of the first horror movie I ever watched.”
Gabriel De Guzman, eighth grader: “The greatest horror movie would be Michael Myers in Halloween (Carpenter, 1978) because I love the vibes of the movie.”
Ms. Adams, teacher: “Freddy Krueger and Nightmare on Elm Street (Craven, 1984) because it has been my favorite movie since forever.”
Darla De La Cruz, eighth grader: “In my opinion The Conjuring (Wan, 2013) is the greatest horror movie because it’s based on real things.”
Jacob Amaya, sixth grader: “I like Chucky in Child’s Play (Holland, 1988) because every time he dies he revives and every time he’s in the body, he’s more human.”
Mr. Chris, security: “I think The Exorcist (Friedkin, 1973) is the scariest thing I’ve seen in my life.”
Scarlett Mendez, eighth grader: “In my opinion I think The Conjuring 3 (Chaves, 2021) was very interesting and mysterious.”
Robin Sanchez, eighth grader: “The Shining (Kubrick, 1980) is the best because it is a classic and interesting horror movie.”
Valentina Vazquez, eighth grader: “My favorite horror series is Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer (Holzman, Saidman, Jan. 13, 2021; Netflix) because it happened here in the Valley and it made me scared for days.”
Julio Fernandez, sixth grader: “I really do not know, but I think Terrifier. It’s not too scary and I like it.”
Ms. Caino, teacher: I don’t like horror, but if I did I would choose It (Muschietti, 2017) . It was scary, like it actually made me leave my seat in the theater.”

Roger Pacok, sixth grader: “Dogman (Besson, 2024) because it gives me the chills.”
Sandy Castro, seventh grader: “Orphan (Mace, 2009) because it’s about a little girl but she’s a grown woman.”
Ms. Castro, PSA counselor: “The Exorcist because of the jumpscares and vomiting and the head twisting.”

Lariza Lopez, eighth grader: “In my opinion I think Coraline (Selick, 2009) because of the Other Mother’s transformation.”
Ms. Vivado, teacher: “I saw the original Pet Sematary (Lambert, 1989) in the theater with my hands covering my eyes for most of the movie. A walking dead little boy, a creepy sister whose locked up, the black cat, the scalpel! My friends and I still laugh about how scared we were.”
